The Medina Battling Bees will venture away from home to face off against the Keystone Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Medina is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Medina will head out to face Keystone after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. The Battling Bees fell just short of Brunswick by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Battling Bees have suffered since March 29th.
Bella Case spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Katie Rubino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryann Allar, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Keystone entered their tilt with Wellington on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Dukes. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Brooklyn Modock was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Modock was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jordan Owca was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Bristol Foster was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Keystone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Keystone pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Medina, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Medina hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Keystone struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
