LAKE CORMORANT, Miss. -
Lake Cormorant (Miss.) took an early lead against
New Hope (Columbus, Miss.) and held on for a 28-12 victory on Saturday.
Lake Cormorant put up 14 points in the opening quarter. LC scored on a
Bailey Walker touchdown pass to
Ryan Golden and a touchdown run by
Austion Byrd.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Walker to Golden in the first quarter, Lake Cormorant led 14-6 at the half.
LC expanded its lead to 15 points entering the fourth quarter. Lake Cormorant scored once in the quarter on a Walker touchdown run.
LC entered the contest giving up 20.8 points per game this year. A defensively strong Lake Cormorant kept the Trojans well below the 25.8 points it had been averaging per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for New Hope, which notched a 28-24 victory over Center Hill in its previous outing.
In a 5A Region 1 game next week Lake Cormorant (5-2) takes on West Point, and New Hope (3-4) will go up against Oxford also in a 5A Region 1 game.
