The Elkhorn Antlers will venture away from home to challenge the Bennington Badgers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Elkhorn has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Bennington will come in with 13 straight wins.
On Friday, Elkhorn didn't have quite enough to beat Wahoo/Bishop Neumann and fell 4-3.
Carter Haberling was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last three games.
On the hitting side, Caiden Severson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Bennington gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Pius X by a score of 10-5.
Bennington got a big performance out of Hunter Spencer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Spencer posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Layne Boever was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Bennington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Bennington pushed their record up to 13-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Elkhorn, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Elkhorn came out on top in a nail-biter against Bennington in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Antlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Badgers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
