The Westmont Sentinels are taking a road trip to take on the Plano Reapers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Westmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Westmont easily dispatched Prosser on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Sentinels fell just short of Jones by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Sentinels have suffered since April 25, 2024.
Westmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rocco Damato, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Plano had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Genoa-Kingston on Thursday as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Reapers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 4, 2024.
Jason Phillips was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Plano's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Phillips was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Josh Stellwagen was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Quentin Santoria also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Westmont has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5-1 record this season. As for Plano, their record is now 2-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westmont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Plano struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Westmont took their victory against Plano in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Reapers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
