The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles waltzed into their contest Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Spanish Fork with a 45-40 victory. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but Maple Mountain was the better team in the second half.
Maple Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaynee Tanner led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Liesel Hansen was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Maple Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Spanish Fork, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain is on the road again on Friday and play against Salem Hills at 5:15 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Salem Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday. As for Spanish Fork, they will head out on the road to face off against Springville at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Springville is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
