North Port has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Venice Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, North Port beat Manatee 43-31.
Mya Van Salisbury and Taylor Davidson were among the main playmakers for North Port as the former scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals and the latter scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Davidson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Rhiley Richards was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Venice entered their tilt with DeSoto County with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Venice breezed by DeSoto County on the road to the tune of 64-27. Given Venice's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while DeSoto County is ranked 370th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Venice's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tessa Oleary, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole Beatty, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
North Port's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Venice, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
North Port came up short against Venice when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 55-47. Can North Port avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
