The Lubbock Westerners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Monterey, falling 89-38. Lubbock has not had much luck with Monterey recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Aaliyah Chavez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Monterey, going 12 for 20 from beyond the arc en route to 47 points and 5 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Chavez has scored at least a third of Monterey's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ambrosia Cole, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Lubbock has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Monterey, the victory (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 23-5.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Coronado the next time they take the court. Monterey will head out to face Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Lubbock will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
