El Paso-Gridley and Delavan are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Titans are taking a road trip to challenge the Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. El Paso-Gridley has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for El Paso-Gridley's offense. They lost 13-0 to Tremont on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Titans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delavan). They never let Peoria Heights get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Thursday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Lainey Klokkenga made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two triples, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Mia Mammen looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Nola Houston was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayley Fisher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Delavan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Delavan and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for El Paso-Gridley, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-9.
El Paso-Gridley beat Delavan 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
