The Darien Blue Wave will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Newtown Nighthawks at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Darien knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Newtown likes a good challenge.
Darien pushed their score all the way to 58 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harding.
Newtown can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They slipped by Torrington 67-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Darien's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Newtown, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Darien came up short against Newtown when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 58-52. Can Darien avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
