Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the Wausa Vikings proved on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Creighton with a sharp 66-44 win. Given Wausa's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Creighton is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wausa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Preston Schlote out in front who scored 13 points along with 9 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cashe Carlson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Creighton's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan Kuhl, who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Taylor Nilson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 4 steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Wausa and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Creighton, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wausa is on the road again on Saturday and play against Elgin/Pope John. As for Creighton, they will face off against Osmond/Randolph on Tuesday.
