Southwest Onslow has gone 6-1 against Wallace-Rose Hill recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Southwest Onslow Stallions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southwest Onslow has three straight victories, Wallace-Rose Hill has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Two weeks ago, Southwest Onslow earned a 54-45 win over Hedgesville. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Stallions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 257th in North Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 76th in West Virginia).
Oriyanna Galloway and Khimara Dorsey were among the main playmakers for Southwest Onslow as the former went 6 for 12 on her way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which Galloway has scored at least a third of Southwest Onslow's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brinkleyanne Lucas, who posted eight points along with five assists and three steals.
Southwest Onslow smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wallace-Rose Hill suffered their closest loss since January 30th on Friday. They fell just short of Heide Trask by a score of 47-44.
Southwest Onslow will have to keep a close watch on Analeise Rivenbark and Jansley Page, a pair of players who had a big impact on Wallace-Rose Hill's prior game. Rivenbark had eight points in addition to ten rebounds and four blocks, while Page went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and five rebounds. Those four blocks gave Rivenbark a new career-high.
Wallace-Rose Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Southwest Onslow, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Southwest Onslow has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Wallace-Rose Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Southwest Onslow against Wallace-Rose Hill in their previous matchup back in February, as the team secured a 63-24 win. In that game, Southwest Onslow amassed a halftime lead of 39-11, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
