The Mainland Regional Mustangs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bridgeton 59-28 at home. With Mainland Regional ahead 36-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.
When it comes to explaining why Bridgeton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jameel Purnell. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mainland Regional's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Bridgeton, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mainland Regional will face off against Cinnaminson at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bridgeton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Vineland at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th.
