The Myers Park Mustangs put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Military Magnet Academy by a score of 49-39. The score was all tied up 18-18 at the break, but Myers Park was the better team in the second half.
Myers Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Wilson led the charge by scoring nine points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Amani Barner, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Military Magnet Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Lauren Willis and DaNariyah Williams. Willis scored eight points along with five rebounds, while Williams scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Military Magnet Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Myers Park only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Myers Park's victory bumped their record up to 17-0. As for Military Magnet Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Myers Park on the road again on Tuesday and play against Berry at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Berry is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. As for Military Magnet Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Cross at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Cross will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
