The Oak Forest Academy Yellowjackets will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the D'Iberville Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Forest Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Oak Forest Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Lafayette on Wednesday. They fell 5-1 to the Commodores. The Yellowjackets' defeat signaled the end of their undefeated season.
Oak Forest Academy got a good showing from Tyler Mulkey, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Mulkey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Oak Forest Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blayke Danna, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kade Perkins also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, D'Iberville fell victim to Mooreville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Troopers, falling 7-0. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
D'Iberville also got a good showing from Kaden Allen, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Allen also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because D'Iberville is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise.
Having lost for the first time this season, Oak Forest Academy fell to 6-1. As for D'Iberville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Oak Forest Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like D'Iberville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oak Forest Academy suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to D'Iberville when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Oak Forest Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
