Salida is 2-8 against Colorado Springs Christian since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Salida Spartans will look to defend their home court against the Colorado Springs Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. Salida will be looking to keep their 15-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Salida didn't have too much trouble with Manitou Springs at home as they won 58-39. Given Salida's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Manitou Springs is ranked 199th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kason Westphal and Ryan Osness were among the main playmakers for Salida as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds and the latter scored 17 points along with five steals. Osness has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. Dylan Grant was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Colorado Springs Christian came up short against Manitou Springs last Tuesday and fell 54-46. Colorado Springs Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Colorado Springs Christian had strong showings from Miguel Cota-cordova, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, and Jace Velasquez, who scored 14 points. That's the first time this season that Cota-cordova posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Williams, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Salida's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Colorado Springs Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Salida hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 62.6 points per game. It's a different story for Colorado Springs Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 42.8 points per game. The only thing between Salida and another offensive beatdown is Colorado Springs Christian. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Salida was able to grind out a solid victory over Colorado Springs Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 58-50. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Colorado Springs Christian's Nathan Davies, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Salida to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
