On Friday, the Douglas County Huskies faced the ThunderRidge Grizzlies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Douglas County fell 76-63 to ThunderRidge. Douglas County has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Douglas County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Nettles, who scored 23 points along with six assists and two steals. Nettles continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Vaughn Baldwin, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
ThunderRidge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charlie Spann, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Spann hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Tommy Wight was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Douglas County's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for ThunderRidge, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglas County will take on Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Chaparral is ranked eighth, while Douglas County is ranked 17th). As for ThunderRidge, they will be playing at home against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
