Two dominant guards in Syvannah Dawson and Sydney Richardson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Thomas Dale Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Matoaca Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Thomas Dale will be looking to keep their 17-game home win streak alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, Thomas Dale gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Deep Run, posting a 84-35 victory on the road. Given Thomas Dale's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Deep Run is ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thomas Dale found their leader in underclassman Dawson, who shot 5-for-8 from deep and almost dropped a triple-double on 31 points, nine assists, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dawson has scored all season. Nylah Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Matoaca, as they earned their first road win of the season. They secured a 53-48 W over Dinwiddie on Thursday.
Matoaca relied on the efforts of Kristina Cooper, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds, and Richardson, who scored 20 points along with six assists and three steals. Cooper continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Thomas Dale's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Matoaca, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Everything came up roses for Thomas Dale against Matoaca in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 74-39 victory. Will Thomas Dale repeat their success, or does Matoaca have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
