Lauren Schellhammer was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Trinity Jensen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Lakeville North waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Lakers by a score of 7-3. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Like Lakeville South, Lakeville North also got a great game from a two-way player: Aivry Abraham. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Abraham was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lakeville North let Alicia Jeanson and Izzie Stevens run wild. Jeanson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple, while Stevens went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Stevens a new career-high.
Lakeville North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Lakeville North's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Lakeville South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Lakeville North's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Lakeville South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lakeville North, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Lakeville South keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Lakeville South couldn't quite get it done against Lakeville North when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
