The Bellevue East Chieftains's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbus. Bellevue East was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Columbus apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Bellevue East still got an impressive performance from Trey Tolbert, who scored 18 points along with 3 steals. Tolbert scored a full 33.3% of Bellevue East's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kael Walker, who scored 13 points.
Columbus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Griffin Micek led the charge by scoring 19 points. Another player making a difference was Quinn Freshour, who scored 14 points.
Bellevue East's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Columbus, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Bellevue East will head out on the road to face off against Millard West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 58 points per game, Millard West has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game. As for Columbus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 64 points per game, Lincoln East has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game.
