On Friday, The Pearl Pirates faced the Brandon Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Pearl suffered a rough 42-20 defeat at the hands of Brandon. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pearl in their matchups with Brandon: they've now lost three in a row.
Brandon was led to victory by Landon Varnes and Jay Mcqueen. Varnes threw for 264 yards and five touchdowns, while Mcqueen picked up 158 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Mcqueen's longest reception was for an incredible 85 yards.
Pearl's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Brandon, the victory was the sixth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Meridian the next time they take the field. Brandon will host Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Pearl will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on November 2nd.
