After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Morgantown, the Huntington Highlanders were happy to have found some success on Monday. They walked away with a 74-66 win over Capital. Given Huntington's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Cougars are ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jayden Clark was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last three games he's played. Mikey Johnson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Huntington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Capital, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Huntington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Black Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. South Charleston has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 511 points over their last eight matchups. As for Capital, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
