Basketball Recap: Columbus North Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbus North). They blew past the Shelbyville Golden Bears 66-43 on Tuesday. Given the Bull Dogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Golden Bears are ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Columbus North got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Johnson out in front who went 6 of 11 on her way to 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenna Conrad, who posted 13 points.

Columbus North was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Shelbyville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Savannah Collins, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 14 points. Those 14 points gave Collins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Marshall, who had eight points.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.1 points per game. As for Shelbyville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Columbus North didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-31 win against Terre Haute South Vigo on the 7th. As for Shelbyville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-43 loss against Batesville on the 7th.
