With a playoff game on the line, the Palmetto Panthers rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 win over the Falcons. The win was just what Palmetto needed coming off of a 58-37 defeat in their prior match.
Palmetto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sami Anes led the charge by shooting 4-for-7 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Anes is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. N'Siyah Donaldson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Masielle Peralta, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Sophia Diaz, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Palmetto is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Ferguson, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Palmetto is on the road again on Friday and plays Miami at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Miami will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Palmetto surely won't give up without a fight. Ferguson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
