In what's become a running theme this season, the Evangel Christian Lightning gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Edgewood Academy 60-26 on the road. Given Evangel Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Edgewood Academy is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clay Stanton was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Black, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Edgewood Academy still got an impressive performance from Johnny Groves, who scored ten points along with two steals. Brock Whitt was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds.
Evangel Christian's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Edgewood Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will take on Wiregrass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Christian Miller and Owen Bugnar. As for Edgewood Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Evangel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Evangel Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three games.
