Bayside hasn't had much luck against Landstown recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Marlins are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
Kempsville hit Bayside with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Marlins fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 7-6. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Landstown). Everything went their way against Salem on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Sundevils: they've now won eight in a row.
Andy Cruz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cruz was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landstown got a massive performance out of Gabe Wemmerus, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Dawson Hogan was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Landstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2025.
Landstown's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-2. As for Bayside, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Bayside suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Landstown when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Marlins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
