The Dougherty Trojans had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They snuck past Jenkins with a 51-45 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 5 on the offensive boards, as Dougherty did.
Dougherty was led to victory by Markelle Jones and Jaion Burns. Jones scored 16 points along with seven rebounds, while Burns scored 15 points along with eight assists and three steals. Those eight assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Montravious Perkins, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah James, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was James' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Anthony Aj bynum was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three blocks.
Dougherty's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Jenkins, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Dougherty and St. Anne-Pacelli will face off at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully St. Anne-Pacelli focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday. Jenkins will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Northeast at 1:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Hopefully Northeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Thursday.
