Softball Recap: Orleans Has No Trouble Against Lanesville

Orleans had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Lanesville on Friday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Eagles. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Izzie Rutherford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Rutherford was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chelsea Ralph was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Adrian Abel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Orleans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Orleans pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for Lanesville, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Orleans has already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against South Central on the 12th. As for Lanesville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-2 defeat against Charlestown on the 12th.
