Basketball Recap: Clark Fork Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Clark Fork can now relate to. They took a blow against the Lakeside Knights on Monday, falling 89-52. While losing is never fun, the Wampus Cats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Knights are ranked 42nd).

Clark Fork lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Owen Howard, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Evrett Montgomery, who went 7-for-17 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Clark Fork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.8 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.6.

It was another big night for Hallah Peone, who went 13-for-17 en route to 31 points along with six boards and five assists for Lakeside. Peone's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 22 points. Tyson Charley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and ten assists.

Clark Fork dropped their record down to 4-13 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Lakeside, Wallace, and Lakeside. As for Lakeside, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Clark Fork has already played their next contest (against Wallace), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lakeside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
