Thunder Basin and Campbell County are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Thunder Basin Bolts are taking a road trip to take on the Campbell County Camels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thunder Basin is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Thunder Basin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wyoming's top teams: East, who was ranked fifth at the time (Thunder Basin was ranked 23rd). Thunder Basin lost 56-32 to East last Saturday. The Bolts were down 43-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Taylee Cundy, who posted seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Rouse, who scored 15 points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Campbell County came up short against Sheridan on Friday and fell 50-38.
Thunder Basin will have to contain Lauren Kuhbacher as she made an impact in Campbell County's last game. She earned 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Kuhbacher has become a key player for Campbell County: the team is 10-5 when she posts at least three steals, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bella Stewart, who had two points and ten boards.
Even though they lost, Campbell County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.
Campbell County dropped their record down to 11-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Thunder Basin, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Thunder Basin has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Campbell County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Thunder Basin came up short against Campbell County in their previous meeting back in January, falling 48-39. Can Thunder Basin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
