ARLINGTON, Texas -- Luke Bishop continued the family quarterbacking legacy, accounting for 291 combined yards and four touchdowns in a 49-45 victory for
Aledo (Texas) over
Temple (Texas) in the Class 5A Division I title game before 40,281 Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.

With older brother Matthew, a three-time state champion quarterback, counseling from the sideline, Bishop guided Aledo (15-1) on a dramatic 13-play, 75-yard drive for the go-ahead touchdown with 41 seconds remaining.
Fittingly, it was Bishop on the winning touchdown run, a 6-yard sweep behind the clearing block of running back
Jess Anders IV.
And it was Bishop again in a rare defensive appearance ending a last-gasp Temple drive with an end zone interception on the game‘s final play.
Bishop, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior, completed 9 of 14 passes for 122 yards and rushed 20 times for 169 yards to complete the second-consecutive state crown for the Bearcats. He was also the starting quarterback last year.
"I was ball boy when my brother was playing,'' said Bishop, named the game‘s offensive MVP. "I followed him everywhere and learned from him. At Aledo, we don't rebuild. Guys move on and there are younger guys to fill in the spots.''
It is a given that the Bishops get the best of protection. The family patriarch, Lee Bishop, coaches the Aledo offensive line.

For Aledo, the state title is its fifth in six years and sixth overall, two shy of the state record of eight shared by Celina and Carroll (Southlake).
Temple (13-2) rallied from an 18-point deficit on the passing of Baylor pledge
Chad President (233 yards) and the running of
Marques Hatcher (171 yards, three touchdowns).
But it was a trick play that put the Wildcats in front, a 40-yard pass from
Tyler Hannon to
Jordan Lee. Hannon was near the sideline and received a long lateral from President, but the Aledo defense was not fooled. Lee made a juggling catch of the tipped pass for a 45-42 Temple lead with 5:50 remaining.
In addition to his key block on the winning touchdown, Anders rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 29-yard pass from Bishop on fourth-and-6 for a 42-31 lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
Junior linebacker
Larry Brown, the game's defensive MVP, returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown in Aledo's 35-point explosion in the first half.
Temple junior linebacker
Quintin Smith led all tacklers with 14.
