The Regis Jesuit Raiders will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Regis Jesuit is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Fort Collins. Regis Jesuit's pitchers stepped up to hand Fort Collins a 10-0 shutout on Friday.
Luke Reasbeck and Hudson Alpert made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Reasbeck pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Alpert struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). At the plate, Reasbeck scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Alpert went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The dominant performance also gave Reasbeck a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Carter Rathbun, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Regis Jesuit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Collins only posted an OBP of .158.
Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over Douglas County.
Like Regis Jesuit, Cherokee Trail also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Thrush. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thrush has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Michlig was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Landon Olds was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Regis Jesuit was able to grind out a solid win over Cherokee Trail in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. Will Regis Jesuit repeat their success, or does Cherokee Trail has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
