Effingham County is 2-8 against Statesboro since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Effingham County Rebels will square off against the Statesboro Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Effingham County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, Effingham County ended up a good deal behind Greenbrier and lost 54-38. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 142nd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anthony Davis, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Elyjah Doty, who scored six points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Statesboro didn't have too much trouble with Glynn Academy on Saturday as they won 68-50. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Effingham County better focus on containing Ja'Caiden Cone and Dartavian (Dj) Brown as the pair were huge in Statesboro's win. Cone went 8 for 11 on his way to 20 points and five boards, while Brown went 6 of 9 to rack up 15 points and three steals. What's more, Cone also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Camdyn Wilkerson was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Statesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Effingham County's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Statesboro, their record now sits at 20-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Effingham County has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Statesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Effingham County was dealt a bruising 61-34 loss at the hands of Statesboro when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Statesboro's Muhammad Shareef, who went 10 for 11 en route to 23 points and eight rebounds. Now that Effingham County knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
