The Mulvane Wildcats will square off against the Collegiate Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Mulvane's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Collegiate's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Collegiate will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mulvane extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Wildcats came out on top against Buhler by a score of 7-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mulvane got a great performance from Grey Sanders as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over 5.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Braxton Madrigal was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Hackleman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Ten must be Collegiate's lucky number: they beat Rose Hill with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Spartans didn't even let the Rockets on the board, marking the Spartans' second-straight 10-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Carson Malaise made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Malaise was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Collegiate let Carter Drumright and Max Williams run wild. Drumright went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Williams went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Gavin Klausmeyer was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Collegiate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive contests.
Mulvane's win bumped their record up to 13-4-2. As for Collegiate, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7-1.
Everything went Mulvane's way against Collegiate in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Mulvane made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
