Allen is 2-7 against Plano West since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Allen Eagles will face off against the Plano West Wolves at 7:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Allen took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Princeton. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Morgan Wright made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Wright was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Elliana Kovacs was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Kate Bettge was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Plano West had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-4 victory.
Marlee Flanigan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Reasoner, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Cuellar, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Allen's record now sits at 7-10-1. As for Plano West, their record is now 8-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Allen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Plano West struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Allen might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Plano West in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Allen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
