On Saturday, Yuba City came up short against Pleasant Valley and fell 60-52. While losing is never fun, Yuba City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 576th, while Pleasant Valley is ranked 212th).
When it comes to explaining why Yuba City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Saleem Rafiq. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. Rafiq scored a full 36.5% of Yuba City's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Felix Matta, who scored 6 points.
Pleasant Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Martin out in front who scored 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Anthony Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Yuba City and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Pleasant Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Yuba City has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Rosemont at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Pleasant Valley will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Weed at 2:30 p.m. on December 14th.
