The Pueblo Warriors lost against the Salpointe Catholic Lancers on January 11th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Pueblo fell 56-49 to the Lancers. While losing is never fun, Pueblo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Lancers are ranked 44th).
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jorge Franco. Despite the final result, he scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of David Hernandez, who scored 11 points.
Logan Martinez was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds and six steals for Salpointe Catholic. Bobby Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Pueblo and nudges their season record down to 5-20. As for Salpointe Catholic, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.
Pueblo will head out on the road to square off against the Caballeros at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowing Wells has now lost 20 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 22. As for Salpointe Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sahuaro knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully the Lancers likes a good challenge.
