The Mishawaka Marian Knights will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Hamilton Southeastern Royals at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Mishawaka Marian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Saturday.
Mishawaka Marian's 23-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 55-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gary West Side. While losing is never fun, Mishawaka Marian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Gary West Side is ranked 25th).
Mishawaka Marian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jackson Horvath, who scored 19 points along with four steals, and William Owens who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Owens' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zion Rhoades, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mishawaka Marian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hamilton Southeastern beat Christel House 62-49 on Friday.
This is the second loss in a row for Mishawaka Marian and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Hamilton Southeastern, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Mishawaka Marian couldn't quite finish off Hamilton Southeastern when the teams last played back in February of 2020 and fell 49-46. Thankfully for Mishawaka Marian, Mabor Majak (who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
