Hedgesville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Spring Mills Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Hedgesville is ranked 77th, while Spring Mills is ranked 79th).
Hedgesville struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (Martinsburg had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Hedgesville fell 36-23 to Martinsburg.
Hedgesville got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Maggie Boyer and
Natalie Yates, who each put up seven points.
Gracie Brown held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Spring Mills' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by North Marion 70-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Spring Mills has suffered since December 8, 2023.
Briana (Bri) King put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored seven points.
Hedgesville's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.0 points per game. As for Spring Mills, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-1 record last season and are now at 1-11.
Hedgesville was dealt a bruising 72-15 loss at the hands of Spring Mills in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hedgesville was down 40-7.
