The Lakeside Lancers fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Canyon Springs Cougars on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 57-55. Lakeside has struggled against Canyon Springs recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Lakeside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurice Turner. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Turner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Knudson, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and five assists.
Canyon Springs was led to victory by Tyler Vann and Ian Nicolls. Vann scored 11 points along with three blocks and two steals, while Nicolls dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Rojo, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lakeside has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Canyon Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeside will take on Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canyon Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Rialto at 10:30 a.m. Rialto is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses.
