1A Western Slope recap September 24, 2013
Hotchkiss's Devan Rupe recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Western Slope this season in his game against Monte Vista last week. Rupe ran for 64 yards on the play and finished with 107 on the day as his team defeated the Pirates.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Meeker beat Del Norte 42-0,. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Hank Edwards was the best receiver in the league this week as Hotchkiss topped Monte Vista. Edwards tallied 5 receptions for 114 yards. Chris Allen helped Hotchkiss' passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 77 yards.
Taylor Walters put up the best numbers through the air as Paonia beat Dolores. He finished with 6 completions for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns. Walters' favorite target this week was Logan Schopp, who caught 2 passes for 79 yards.
T.J. Shelton was the most successful running back in 1A Western Slope this week. He ran for 180 yards on 8 carries as Meeker bested Manny Wassinger's team. Jake Phelan also contributed to the rushing game with 83 yards on the ground.
Rupe was a passing and rushing force as the Bulldogs beat the Pirates.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Shane Phelan's team's Phelan and Tristin Pelloni have proven to be a lethal combination. Phelan has thrown for 527 yards this season, while Pelloni has 10 catches for 223 yards. The Eagles' Walters leads the league in rushing yards with 663.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Cedaredge takes on Hotchkiss. As it stands, the Bruins are in fourth, while the Bulldogs are in third.
Paonia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Brent McRae's team vanquished the Bears 48-6 earlier in the week.
