New West Charter has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Foshay Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
New West Charter suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Math & Science College Preparatory 67-32. New West Charter was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.
Liam Hakimi put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 13 points. That was a full 40.6% of New West Charter's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Garcia, who scored seven points.
Foshay proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 52) but on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Middle College 50-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Foshay.
Foshay found their leader in underclassman Shomare' Gray, who scored 21 points along with five assists and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Gray posted two or more blocks. Peter Egwurube was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
New West Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Foshay, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. New West Charter hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.6 points per game. However, it's not like Foshay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
New West Charter didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Foshay in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for New West Charter since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
