Two dominant backs in Will Henderson and DD Murray are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gilmer Buckeyes will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Bellville Brahmas at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th. One thing working in Gilmer's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gilmer had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 79-42 win over the Tigers on the road. The result was nothing new for Gilmer, who have now won seven contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Henderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 271 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Dhrvay Smith was another key contributor, rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bellville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They had just enough and edged Wimberley out 35-33. Bellville's win was all the more impressive since Wimberley was averaging only 13.27 points allowed on the season.
Bellville relied on the efforts of Murray, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and Corrian Hood, who rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Murray is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last nine games he's played.
Gilmer's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Bellville, their victory bumped their record up to 15-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Gilmer has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 292.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bellville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 395.1 rushing yards per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
