Summit Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Laurel Spartan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Summit Academy nor Laurel posted many points in their last games could muster much offensive firepower in their last games.
Last Saturday, Summit Academy took a serious blow against Shenango, falling 37-8.
Meanwhile, Laurel's 9-2 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were beaten by South Side 35-7 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Laurel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 379th, while South Side is ranked 155th).
Summit Academy's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-2 South Side and 9-2 Laurel (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.4% over those games). Laurel has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Summit Academy was taken down by Laurel 68-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Summit Academy, Landon Smith (who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
