West Shore recap Oct. 16, 2012
Avon extended the longest winning streak in West Shore this week by beating Vermilion, 49-20. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Eagles.
Lakewood moved up to 379 from 443 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rangers climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Midview 24-7.
Bay's dynamic duo of Jake Best and Pat Hoke proved tough for Rocky River to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Best threw for 53 yards and Hoke had 39 yards receiving. Luke Rohlke helped Bay's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
Martin Finnegan was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 95 yards as the Pirates fell to the Pirates. Michael Dickey also contributed to the rushing game with 93 yards on the ground.
The Middies' Cody Callaway and Eric Lauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading West Shore in both passing and receiving yards. Callaway has thrown for 1499 yards this season, while Lauer, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 30 catches for 629 yards. Rocky River's Finnegan leads the league in rushing yards with 770.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rick Adams' team takes on Avon. As it stands, the Pirates are in third, while Mike Elder's team is in second.
