Baseball Game Preview: Clark Chargers vs. Cheyenne Desert Shields

For the second straight game, Clark will face off against Cheyenne. The Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Desert Shields at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clark will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Clark's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Cheyenne 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kellen Anunson was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs. Clark is 8-2 when Anunson posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Bryan Humes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Clark: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-10 otherwise. EJ Rivera also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Clark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

Clark's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-11. As for Cheyenne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-5.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Clark has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Cheyenne struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
