The Cozad Haymakers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Wood River with a 48-44 victory. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Wood River is ranked 74th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cozad's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Monty Brooks-follmer, who scored 15 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Brooks-follmer scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Chayden Hoffmaster, who scored ten points.
Cozad's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Wood River, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Cozad won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central City at 7:45 p.m. on December 30th. Central City is on a four-game streak of home wins, Cozad a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Wood River won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Fairbury at 4:15 p.m. on December 30th.
