Leigha Race was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Morningside Academy let Trinity Richards and Reghan Wilbur run wild. Richards scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4, while Wilbur scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. Richards also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addyson Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Morningside Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Heritage's offense. They came up short against Sebastian River on Friday, falling 17-0. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly 17 runs.
Morningside Academy's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
