The Beaufort Eagles lost to the James Island Trojans back in November of 2022, but the Beaufort Eagles didn't allow the James Island Trojans the same satisfaction on Wednesday. Beaufort narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past James Island 51-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Beaufort.
Beaufort's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naiim Pope led the charge by scoring 21 points. Pope continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aj Newton, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Beaufort pushed their record up to 6-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for James Island, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Beaufort will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ashley Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. James Island and Linden will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Linden knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully James Island likes a good challenge.
