South Pike's Jaxavian Holmes rumbled for the longest rushing play in 4A Region 7 this season in his game against Purvis last week. Holmes' team lost to the Tornadoes as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 103 in all.
Tylertown extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Pike, 51-8. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Chiefs.
Purvis' dynamic duo of Nathan Roseberry and Markell Pack proved tough for South Pike to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roseberry threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns and Pack had 117 yards receiving. Logan Dearman helped Purvis' passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Phillip Slocum was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 145 yards as Tylertown defeated Michael Andrews' team. Teammate Chris Jones added to the ground attack by rushing for 84 yards.
Purvis' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roseberry has thrown for 1054 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Pack has 37 catches for 631 yards. Thomaz Taylor leads the league in rushing with 1154 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Tylertown takes on second place Columbia. Last week, Jason Johnson's team topped the Jaguars, while Columbia bested Lawrence County.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on the Chiefs. Columbia has allowed 168 points this season, while Tylertown has given up 145. Walter Denton's team allowed 24 points last week as it topped the Cougars.
The Chiefs took down North Pike 51-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Slocum caught one passes for 11 yards in the win.
