Basketball Recap: Fairview Comes Up Short

After flying high against Skyline last Tuesday, Fairview came back down to earth. The Fairview Knights fell just short of the Monarch Coyotes by a score of 63-60 on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Fairview still got an impressive performance from Spencer Brown, who posted 27 points and five boards. The contest was Brown's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Toray Davis, who went 6-for-10 en route to 13 points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Logan Laverty, who went 13-for-25 on his way to 34 points along with six boards and three steals for Monarch. Laverty has become a key player for Monarch: the team is 7-3 when he posts at least 20 points, but 5-6 otherwise. Aden Clark was another key player, putting up five points and three steals.

Fairview's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Monarch, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairview will take on Arvada West at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Fairview's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. As for Monarch, they will square off against Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
